Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suspended all foreign trips due to the dire situation faced by his depleted troops during Russia’s ongoing offensive. However, there is a glimmer of hope for Kyiv: Ukrainian forces have managed to “partially push back” Russian troops from the border town of Vovchansk in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
Despite active combat clashes, they successfully repelled 18 Russian assaults. Last week, almost 8,000 people fled Kharkiv when Russian forces launched a significant border incursion. Moscow’s forces are also attempting to expand their gains in the eastern Donetsk region.
Zelenskyy remains cautiously optimistic, stating that the situation is under control. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, reassured Ukraine of American support with a $2 billion arms deal. Russia’s strategy aims to stretch Ukraine’s army, which faces shortages of ammunition and manpower along the 620-mile frontline.
